Christine, proud cucumber grower on the Adelaide Plains
Meet Christine. Formerly a soil scientist, her passion for soil health led her to farming, viewing it as an opportunity to practice what she preaches. We asked her to share what she loves about the region and her vision for its future. Here is what she had to say:
What do you love most about the Adelaide Plains Food Region?
I love the Adelaide Plains because of the established food industry here and the number of opportunities it brings. There’s water availability, a well-developed food chain, food and cultural diversity and great people in the industry.
What makes you proud of the work you did in the region?
I’m so proud of this area. There is an abundance of great quality produce and there are so many opportunities that exist for everyone.
How do you see the future of the Adelaide Plains Food Region and what role do you hope to play in it?
I’d like to see greater awareness of the region so that the public is aware of the great produce that comes from here. I’d like to see some festivals to bring people out here. As for my role in the future of the region, I’d love to be a role model to professionals that want to become growers, especially those from cultural and diverse backgrounds. I’d love to become a consultant and share my experience and knowledge to help others.
